RIPON TRIATHLON FESTIVAL

with

Ripon Triathlon Club and the Brownlee Foundation

As Ripon Triathlon Festival approaches, we thought it would be helpful to explain a little more about the organisations behind the event and why it is such an important part of their work.

Ripon Triathlon Club is a volunteer-led community sports club that provides opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to participate in swimming, cycling and running. The club supports junior and adult athletes, from complete beginners taking their first steps into the sport through to experienced competitors. Throughout the year, club members and volunteers help create an environment that promotes fitness, confidence, personal achievement and community involvement.

The festival is also closely linked to the work of the Brownlee Foundation, established by Olympic triathlon champions Alistair Brownlee and Jonny Brownlee. The Foundation exists to give children access to sport and physical activity, particularly those who may not otherwise have the opportunity to take part.

Since its creation, the Foundation has enabled thousands of school children across the country to complete a triathlon in a safe, inclusive and enjoyable environment. For many of these children, it is their first experience of organised sport on this scale and an opportunity that would not otherwise be available to them. The focus is not on competition, but on participation, achievement and enjoyment.

The Ripon Triathlon Festival helps support these wider aims by raising money and creating opportunities for people to become involved in the sport, whether as participants, volunteers, spectators or future club members. It also provides a showcase for the positive impact that sport can have on physical health, mental wellbeing and community engagement.

The event is delivered by a large team of local volunteers who give their time to organise, marshal and support the festival. Their contribution reflects the club’s commitment to creating opportunities for participation and helping more people experience the benefits of an active lifestyle.

We hope this provides some insight into the work carried out by Ripon Triathlon Club and the Brownlee Foundation, and the role the festival plays in supporting those activities.
